I finally got to making Nicholas his first "real" food. He had avacado, which I read is a good first food for babies. He was not impressed with his first experiences with it! I later mixed some milk in with it, and he liked it much better. You have to go to my facebook and see the video of him eating avacados for the first time. He does this shiver, like, "gross!" So funny. I was unable to get it to load up here. I also made him some brown rice cereal and carrots, but we have to wait a few days to try the carrots. I am freezing them into ice cube trays to store in the freezer and thaw as needed. The website I found all the info for this is
Wholesome Baby Food .

In related news, Nicholas had an appointment with his feeding therapist, Robin, on Tuesday. She watched him eat and told me four interesting things. First, she said, do not scrape the food off of your baby's face when feeding because they do not get a sense for feelilng food on their face, then they are the guy in the restaurant with food on his chin and no clue about it. Second, she told me not to pull the spoon up on his upper lip to clear it, just pull straight out. This is so he learns to clear the spoon on his own, without me doing it for him. Thirdly, she told me to feed him with different spoons and from different directions, so he can practice and learn versatility. Finally, she said that Nicholas graduated from feeding therapy! Yea, Nicholas!

Awesome tips! Thanks for sharing. Now I won't feel so bad letting his little face get so dirt ;) Also, thanks for the website.
ReplyDeleteI have bookmarked the website for future reference, and you will have to remind me (us) about the feeding techniques in about 8-9 months!! :)
