In second grade we work really hard with the kids on learning to read "fluently"- which essentially equates to quickly. In kindergarten, they focus on letter recognition as one of their primary goals, "What letter is this- A," "An A." Etc. My two year old may just be ready for kindergarten! Today she was drawing on the chalkboard of the activity quilt that Grandma Lee gave her and she calls to me (I was washing the multitude of dishes that feeding Nicholas incurs) and she tells me she drew an M. Sure enough she had drawn something very closely resembling an M. A minute later she says that she drew an O, later a triangle and an X. I was really impressed because I know this is a much more advanced skill than her two years. The letters were erased before I thought to take a picture of them, but here is how cute she and Nick looked on the quilt. She made me keep drawing pictures of her on the swings, with a mustache. She also had me draw every person and pet in the family except Nicholas, and when I pointed out someone was missing from the family, she quickly reminded me to draw Nicholas, too. Later, she had some quiet reading time in her easy chair.
Finally, she went into her room at nap time, and this is where I need some advice/help, she climbed out of her bed, opened her bedroom door and repeatedly came out into the living room. I put her back several times, then tried to get her to lay down in my bed with me, then tried to get her to lay on the couch to watch a movie and take a nap, no dice. So, predictably, she was irritable all night. How can I get her to take a nap, now that she knows she can escape her crib?
On one of her escapes, I heard her crying in her room, frustrated because she could not zip up a bunting I had made for her when she was a baby. She stuffed herself in, but could not zip it up! I zipped her in and then cuddled her in my rocking chair for a few minutes, though she did not sleep, she did look really cute!
I am the luckiest grandma, these two are soooo good and smart and cuddly and I love them!!
